Make the most of what you have

Who wouldn’t prefer to live in the lap of luxury? Well, there might be some people who’ve experienced both the lap of luxury and the various alternatives to the lap of luxury who might have a preference for an alternative to the lap of luxury; but most of us who have never experienced the lap of luxury are sure we’d prefer a large, spacious million-dollar home to a small two bedroom apartment.
But just because you don’t live in the home of your dreams, or even in a “starter home” isn’t a reason to punish yourself by not taking any interest in the home you do have. The concept of “home” does not apply to any specific type of physical structure; so if you’re one to think that only houses qualify as homes, or places you own as opposed to rent, you should consider modifying your thinking so that you can begin to appreciate that home is where you live.
I remember watching a program once that featured a group of homeless people who took that idea completely to heart. Home is where you live.
Sometimes there’s art in mess but…
Author: admin / Category: Features, Life BalanceFilth can be colorful and artistic at times. Take the dining area of my living room for example. I was working on some photo art and had the place in quite a mess for a few days, which just means a bigger mess than the usual mess. I had paintings, cloth, and props strewn all about the floor. The table was strewn with books and dishes and just about everything imaginable. [ Note: The paintings on the floor are some of my own; the yards of cloth are props I use to set up scenes to photograph for creating digital art work. ]

I decided today to use the opportunity for a before and after photo. Cleaning is something it takes me months to get around to doing, but I’m working on the depression that lies at the root of that so I plan on cleaning more frequently until such time as I can afford a maid…. Read more…
Start with a single piece or two
Author: admin / Category: Recently Purchased
I’ve added an Indonesian wood sculpture to the apartment decor, placing it on a metal-based accent table. Admittedly my $19.99 wood sculpture and my $12.99 accent table aren’t Architectural Digest worthy; but my goal right now isn’t to try to keep up with the Jones’.
I’d actually bought the sculpture to give to someone as a gift but opportunity was lost so I’ve decided to keep it. I went to Marshalls on Monday to pick up an accent table to display it on.
When you’re shopping with a price limit in mind you don’t have too many options. There were some items I would have preferred over the accent table I settled on but I had to be mindful not to spend more than I could afford. I can see how people get carried away in department stores. You see so many pretty things you want to buy them all; but things are just that: things. They won’t make you happy, so getting more than you need is really just wasting money. I’d actually picked up more than just the table at Marshalls; but while on the checkout line I had a mini therapy session with myself. I said to myself, shopping is another form of addiction when done for no other reason but to do it. You didn’t come here to buy this second table or these floral arrangements. You came simply to buy a single accent table to display the wood sculpture on, so put back the extra things because you don’t have a good reason for getting them. You’re just acting on impulse for the high that comes from having new things.
Maybe if money were no object I could act on impulse without consequence and buy how many ever items at whatever price, but that would not make it any less unhealthy. I’d still have overspent just because I wanted new things to make me feel good.
So I purchased only the accent table; and I’ve experimented with placements and think I’ve found a good place for it at the moment. You can see where I’ve placed it by checking Sometimes theres art in mess but….
iRobot 530 Roomba Vacuuming Robot

For a domestically disinclined gal like me this iRobot 530 Roomba Vacuuming Robot sounds like it could go a long way towards helping me keep my apartment in better order. One of the drawbacks when renting is that you don’t get to control the flooring. I absolutely hate carpeted floors, but most apartments come with carpeting, and with carpeting comes the need to vacuum. I can usually think of a million other things to do with my time than vacuuming the floors in my apartment. I think I’ll get me an iRobot Roomba. What do you think? iRobot 530 Roomba Vacuuming Robot, White

Beautiful velvet lounge
Author: admin / Category: Photo of the dayThis is a stock photo of a beautiful velvet lounge. Currently I don’t have enough space in my apartment to accommodate too many pieces of furniture; but I had an interesting experience last year on a trip to Panama City Beach.

I stayed at the Seychelles Resort and the suite was smaller than my apartment but they managed to fit quite a few pieces of furniture in there and it was actually quite cozy. Still, I wouldn’t have a place to put a chaise lounge in my current apartment. Maybe once I move which I’m planning to do in July. I definitely plan on taking some care to pick an apartment that allows for creative decorating.
Handcrafted porcelain vase charger lidded jar
Author: admin / Category: The Wish List
I want these handcrafted porcelain pieces I saw on horchow.com; but to get them all will cost me $1297; so they’ll have to go on the wishlist for now.
The items description:
• Charger on stand, 24″Dia. x 3″D.
• Vase, 13″Dia. x 23″T.
• Lidded jar, 7″Dia. x 12″T.
I’m tempted to think when you live in an apartment you don’t spend $1297 on home decor items. $1297 can go a very long way at targets, Walmart or similar department stores. There are plenty of things that would make more sense to buy at this time. I’d be reluctant to spend $100 on a vase, lidded jar and charger right now so $1297 is definitely out of question; but a wish list is about things you wish you could have and maybe hope to be able to obtain some day, so I don’t mind putting the set on my virtual wish list.
